Price List: How Much Do Chickens Cost at Halbert Farm?

Updated: Feb 28

At Halbert Farm we offer 4 varieties of chickens and one heritage breed of Turkey. I've put together this price list of each breed and price for age and sex. Pullets are young female chickens and Cockerels and young male chickens. I wrote a brief summary on each of the breeds and why I choose them but if you want to skip straight to the prices you can do that too.

Our Salmon Faverolles are exhibition stock and are more expensive than your average chicken. I fell in love with the breed 7 years ago when I got my first hatchery chicks.I really wanted to show them and help preserve the breed. Two years ago I found a mentor and he said I had to sell my whole hatchery flock if I was serious about showing. Then I purchased four separate exhibition bloodlines from Ohio, Rhode Island, and Texas. We started showing and have been doing really great! My Salmon Faverolles will lay large eggs but are also larger than your typical hatchery stock so they will also consume more feed. I do sell straight run chicks at a normal price since you can't tell how they will grow out from just a few days old. If I do have some backyard quality birds they are also affordable so don't hesitate to ask.

The Bielefelders and Egyptian Fayoumis come from McMurray Hatchery and are not recognized by the APA. I have seen them entered in show but the highest you can win with a non-recognized breed is "best of breed". If you are bringing a breed that is not recognized normally you will be the only one so you would get best of breed by default since you are not competing against anyone. I added them to my flock to offer customers a variety for their backyard flocks and looked for breeds that would complement the Faverolles. The Bielefelders are so friendly and lay a huge brown egg. The Egyptians are fun, they are active and a little crazy. They lay a smaller white egg. I choose them for their heat tolerance since we are in Texas.

The Silkies I started hatching for a school's FFA program and I continue to do so each year. Silkies are the most docile of chicken breeds and they have really grown on me. At first I did not like them at all. Everyone seems to love them and they seem to do well in the heat. You do need to be careful of hawks though. I have lost several letting them out to forage and then turn my back and they are gone without a trace!

The Red Bourbon Turkeys have been a very interesting project. The poults as the babies are called are just the cutest things I have ever seen. Then when they grow up they all seem to have their own personalities, we have one we nicknamed Monica who thinks she is Josh's girlfriend and will run after him and even jump in the UTV to be with him!
